Elegant a road trip to Thailand? It is now possible after a section of the Indo-Thailand highway, Myawaddy-Thinggan Kawkareik, of the Asian Superhighway opens in November this year. The highway begins in Manipur. According to the media reports, the first stretch of 26.5 km will cut down on the travel time to just an hour.
To enhance the regional co-operations with Myanmar  and Thailand, Modi government has made the India-Myanmar-Thailand highway of 3200 km as a priority. The highway will further to Southeast Asia.

The current stretch runs from Moreh in India to Thailand's Maesot via Tamu, Mandalay of Myanmar.

From 2016, if you are travelling from Guwahati to Imphal and Moreh, via Dimapur, by road, you will actually be driving on the Asian Highway (AH-1), which is a part of the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway that will connect Moreh to Mae Sot in Thailand, via Mandalay and Yangon in Myanmar. The Myawaddy-Thinggan Nyenaung-Kawkareik section of the Asian highway linking India, Myanmar and Thailand has been put into service, which means that the India-Myanmar-Thailand (IMT) road corridor is technically operational and you should soon be able to drive on it.
